As the number of portable electronic devices that we have with us, it also means that we have to deal with different charging standards and cables. Just when you think that device manufacturers are standardizing to micro-USB, they decided to make the move to USB Type C. Apple doesn’t seem to be giving up on their Lightning connector anytime soon. And then there is wireless charging. Making sure you have the right charging cables with you has become a chore. All the different cables are creating a huge tangled mess in your bag. If this perfectly describes you, what you need is the KableCARD, the compact and easy solution to your charging needs.
The KableCARD storage box is designed to be as small and light as a credit card but a tad bit thicker at about 0.3 inch. It might be a little too thick to fit in your wallet but it will easily fit into your pocket, backpack or handbag. Don’t let the small size fool you as the KableCARD fits 6 different types of cables inside it.
There aren’t actually 6 cables inside of course. There is only one – a foot long USB-Type C to USB-Type C cable. And there are 3 adapters included. A USB-Type C to Type A, a USB-Type C to Micro USB and a USB-Type C to Lightning adapter. By swapping the adapters around, you can essentially create 6 different cable types which should cover all your charging and data transfer needs.

If that is not impressive enough, the KabelCARD also functions as a wireless charging pad. The card itself does not contain a battery so you will need to connect it to a power source for it to function as a wireless charger. We did experience a minor problem with finding the sweet spot for the charging to work. However this is more of a limitation of how wireless charging works.
However the KableCARD is much more than just a storage case for your charging cable. The designers have cleverly added other useful features that any smartphone user will find useful. Firstly, the card case itself doubles up as a phone stand. It supports your phone in either portrait or landscape orientation.
Next, the case has a built-in LED flashlight with 2 brightness intensity. The light can be used as a flashlight or as ambient lighting when using the case as a phone stand while watching movies. The ambient lighting reduces eye strain from watching movies in the dark.
The KableCARD also doubles up as a card reader for a Micro SD HC/XC storage card. Pop in a large storage card and you have yourself a rather handy USB external drive for your PC or media player.
Last but not least, the card case also comes with a SIM ejector pin as well as storage space for 2 nano SIM cards. Both these are very useful features for travelers who swap SIM cards frequently and need a secure place to store their original SIMs.
We would like to note that there are a couple of issues with the design of the device which we hope the designers can rectify with the next version. Both these issues are related to the limited range of movement of the cover. The cover does not open all the way so that the case can function as a phone stand. However, this makes it a bit more difficult to remove and replace the cables and adapters and the cover gets in the way. Secondly, the cover also limits the functionality of the LED light as you cannot shine it directly.
Any smartphone user especially one with multiple devices will find the KableCARD a very handy travel gadget.
