5 Gadgets that we Overpaid in 2017
Gadgets have slowly taken over our daily lives. They make tasks a lot easier, so it makes sense that we have started to integrate them into our daily routine more than ever before. One reason why it is a lot easier to integrate them today is the fact that as technology advances prices for gadgets that would have been fairly expensive a decade ago are a lot lower, making gadgets more attainable. Be it a smartphone or a UHD TV, you have prices starting from a couple of hundred dollars up to thousands.
When a new gadget is introduced, there generally tends to be a lot of buzz around it. Newer gadgets tend to be priced a little higher and if the buzz around it is strong enough, consumers will splurge on it. We have a list of 5 gadgets that consumers definitely splurged on in 2017.
Bluetooth headphones which are also referred to as earbuds were all the hype in 2017. With numerous different companies introducing their take on the earbud, if you are an audiophile then you know the importance of earbuds. They remove the need for wires and make it a lot easier to connect to your audio system with the help of Bluetooth. Earbuds instantly became popular with people that are constantly on the go. Which allowed Nobel Audio to capitalize on their Kaiser Encore.
The Kaiser Encore is a well-crafted pair of earbuds that provide exceptional performance. You definitely will not miss a beat with them. It is constructed keeping durability in mind and fits well and comfortably in all ear sizes. While it delivers on performance and construction, the price tag of over $1,800 is just eye-popping. The reason why is because you can find decent earbuds from Apple or the Super Mini earbuds for under $200.
Like Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth speakers were all the rage this year. However, Atari took the concept to a whole new level with its Speakerhat. Yes, it is exactly what the name suggests – a hat that you can wear which has speakers on the bill. The company targeted fitness enthusiasts with this hat as it allows them to listen to their favorite songs while protecting them from the sun when they are out for a run. Which would have made sense, if you weren’t in public, blazing music for everyone to hear. To top it off, it also comes with a built-in microphone so you can easily make calls for everyone in your surrounding space to hear.
The Speakerhat wasn’t the ideal gadget to have and considering it was priced around $200, definitely one, consumers splurged on in 2017.
There is a reason why Vertu Smartphones has closed down its business. They offered luxurious phones at luxurious prices. Phones that pretty much have the same functionality as a $100 Android with not a lot of other benefits besides a hand-crafted design for those that take luxury seriously. Vertu phone prices start at about $10,000 and can go up to a whole lot more. Even with such a high price tag, they were able to generate a following and even had flagship stores in metropolitan cities that are known for luxury brands. However, the fact that these phones were not attainable by the general public caused it a lot of problems eventually leading it to close the business down in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The home theater system is vital to any home and you want the biggest screen you can possibly fit in the room. Well, you won’t find a TV screen bigger than the C Seed 262 which has a whopping screen size of 262 inches. Yes, you read that right, it also weighs a little over 1,700 lbs and is the largest 4K television set in the world. It also comes with a built-in 9.1 surround sound system, a media server, and an automatic roll down cover for the screen to protect it. The TV offers an amazing sound experience which is one of the main reasons why people were buying it even though it has a price tag of $539,000. Talk about splurging on a TV, you could buy a new house with that.
When you look at a ukelele, it doesn’t really scream expensive. That’s the wonderful thing about musical instruments, you have a wide variety to choose from with pricing that varies. So it doesn’t really make sense to spend $200 on a ukulele when you can easily get one for under $40. The Smart Ukulele does, however, have a little more to offer than your average ukulele. It has digital components to it which allows you to hook it up to its app. The app allows you to learn how to play it, tune it properly, while also offering you some additional benefits which aren’t really worth the price. With much simpler ukuleles out there, it didn’t make sense to spend so much on a smart one when it doesn’t really add a whole lot of benefit to your playing experience.
It is important that as a consumer, you don’t fall into the buzz around certain gadgets. Unless you have a lot of money to spare, it is always a smart choice to wait before you buy a new gadget because chances are within weeks there will be alternative, cheaper options. If you are just looking to splurge or wanting something luxurious then you can go right ahead but as a smart consumer, being patient and doing your research always pays off.
