Bluetooth tracker or finder tags for tagging your belongings so that you don’t lose them are not new. We have even featured a few different implementations here. They are used for everything from keeping track of your wallet, keys, luggage and even pets and young children. The Tile is yet another Bluetooth tag but it has a few extra tricks up its sleeve that lets it stand out from all the other Bluetooth tracker tags out there.

Tile helps you find lost Tiled items by searching in its last known location using Bluetooth technology. The technology employed is simple. The Tile is paired to your mobile phone and it alerts you if the paired item goes out of the device’s Bluetooth range. However, what makes Tile special is the extra features provided by the free Tile app available for both iOS and Android phones.

Tile is small and lightweight at only 37 mm (1.5 inch) square and about 5 mm thick. It is small enough to be attached to your belongings that you want to keep track of like your purse, handbag, wallet, luggage, laptop, keys, gadgets like your camera or even your bicycle. Besides notifying you that your Tiled item has been separated from your phone, it can help you find your lost Tiled item.

There are multiple ways that the Tile app and Tile work together in finding your lost item. You can search by sound. You ring your Tile from the app and a ringing melody will play on Tile to help locate your lost item. Another way you can search for lost items is through a map. The app will recall the last known location of your Tiled item before it got lost so you will have an idea on where to begin searching. You can use this feature to help you remember where you parked your car.

The last and most powerful method lets you enlist the help of all Tile users to search for your lost item. Just use the Mark as Lost feature and the app will notify all other Tile apps to be on the lookout for your lost Tile. The app will then anonymously notify you if your Tile comes in range of anyone else’s Tile app.

Tile runs on 4 CR2 batteries and has a life span of a year. With Tile, you can get help of thousands of other Tile users to help look for your lost item. Think of it as crowd sourced lost and found.
