“You Got Mail!” Three little words. It may be hard to imagine but once upon a time, these three little words brought untold joy to millions of email users around the world. A short lived joy that was forever destroyed by junk mail. While email and other forms of electronic communication has far overtaken the traditional mail system, the mail system still has its uses. In an ironic twist, you can now have you post box send you an alert on your smartphone every time you receive mail with the Postybell post box sensor.

The idea of a smart post box is not terribly new. There have been similar systems in the past but they are all limited by range as they rely on WiFi. The Postybell is the post box sensor on steroids as it comes with a GSM module and communicates via cellular network. You can be half a world away and you will still get a notification when you receive mail. It has a built-in rechargeable battery but you can add an optional solar charger for a truly maintenance free system.

Postybell is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo. The creator hopes to raise at least $30,000 to make Postybell a reality. Head on over and support the campaign if you want a Postybell of your very own.
